The Level 1 of the Gottman Institute’s training pathway for couples therapists, taught in Italian to a small group of clinicians. Live online on January 15–16, 2027. Enrollment is open.

Online: Friday, January 15 and Saturday, January 16, 2027, held once the minimum number of registrations is reached; if it is not, a new date or a full refund on request.

Twelve hours over two full days (10:00–17:30 CET), plus a 90-minute online follow-up four weeks later.
Maximum 25 participants.
18 credits expected, through an accredited provider (accreditation in progress). ECM is Italy’s continuing education system for health professionals.
€450, VAT included. 10% discount for psychotherapy trainees and for partner practices with at least 2 participants in the same edition. What the Level 1 is
It is the level that opens the Gottman Institute’s training pathway for couples therapists: twelve hours that bring forty years of research on couples, by John and Julie Gottman, into the consulting room.
You learn to run the Gottman assessment of a couple, to read it through the Sound Relationship House and to choose first interventions on conflict, friendship and shared meaning. The content is the official one, in the sequence set by the Gottman Institute; only the language in which I teach it changes.
The Level 1 gives access to the later levels of the pathway, but it does not make you a Certified Gottman Therapist: certification is a separate path that begins once the training is complete. I would rather tell you this upfront.
Who it is for
Italian-speaking clinicians who work with couples, or want to start — and individual therapists who work indirectly on couple conflict:
- Psychologists and psychotherapists
- Physicians (psychiatrists, child neuropsychiatrists) and psychotherapy trainees
- Couples therapists of any orientation who want a research-based method
No previous experience with the Gottman Method is needed; you need to work, or want to work, with two people in the room. A reduced fee is planned for trainees.

Angelo Mussoni
Psychologist and psychotherapist. Certified Gottman Therapist since 2024, authorized by the Gottman Institute to teach the Level 1 training in Italian (2026).
In August 2026 I took part as a trainer-in-training in the Level 1 training led by Advanced Clinical Trainer Vagdevi Meunier in Austin, Texas, presenting one of its lectures. I work in Rimini and online, in a bilingual studio dedicated only to couples: Italian, international and intercultural, LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse, high-conflict, with children, with an affirming perspective on diversity. The Gottman Institute has also trained me in infidelity, trauma and intimate partner aggression; I am a Seven Principles Workshop Leader and a Bringing Baby Home Educator. I integrate the Gottman Method with EFT (Sue Johnson, Externship; specific EFT training for LGBTQ+ couples with Dr. Robert Allan, 2025), PACT (Stan Tatkin, Level 1), PET-C (Brent Atkinson) and DBT for couples. Member of APA, ICEEFT (International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy) and DBT Italy (Dialectical Behavior Therapy); court-appointed advisor (CTU) at the Civil Court of Rimini.

- 2024 — Certified Gottman Therapist: the first Italy-based clinician to complete Gottman certification.
- September 2026 — The Gottman Institute has authorized me to teach the Level 1 Training in Italian, at the end of my mentorship with Advanced Clinical Trainer Vagdevi Meunier (Level 1 in Austin, Texas, August 2026, where I presented one of the lectures). It is the first level of the Gottman Method certification pathway. The first online edition is scheduled: dates and enrollment on this page.

Can I take the training in English?
Not at the moment. The Level 1 I teach is in Italian. English-speaking therapists can leave their details below to hear about webinars and future English-language events.
Where do I enroll?
On altrestrade.it, once an edition opens. AltreStrade handles enrollment and invoicing. People on the list hear first.
Are ECM credits available?
ECM is Italy’s continuing education system for health professionals. Credits are under evaluation with an accredited provider; I will confirm the outcome before enrollment opens.
What happens if I join the list?
I email you as soon as there is a date or an edition in line with your preferences, and you can enroll before it is made public. Nothing else. You can withdraw with a single line.
